Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal of the House of Representatives paid a courtesy call on President Ramchandra Paudel today, October 2, 2026, at the President’s Office.
During the meeting, Speaker Aryal informed President Paudel that he will depart on Sunday, October 4, 2026, to attend the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the global organisation of national parliaments that promotes peace, democracy, and sustainable development. The Speaker’s Secretariat stated that discussions also covered Nepal’s participation and representation at the upcoming IPU Assembly.

The 153rd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly is scheduled to take place from October 5 to 9, 2026, in Arusha, Tanzania. The central theme for this year’s assembly is ‘Enhancing good governance and empowering communities through inclusivity, trust, and opportunities for all’. A new IPU President will also be elected during the assembly.
Nepal became a member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in 1967. The IPU Assembly is held twice a year, bringing together parliamentarians from around the world to discuss pressing global issues. Nepal has consistently participated in various IPU assemblies, often led by its Speaker or the head of its parliamentary delegation.
