Next steps for the committee
The Parliamentary Hearing Committee, which comprises 15 members (12 from the House of Representatives and three from the National Assembly, the upper house of parliament), decided to advance the hearing process for the ambassadorial recommendations on September 24, 2026. The Speaker of the House of Representatives is Dolprasad Aryal.
The ambassador appointment process can only proceed after the committee completes its study and hearing of the complaints and subsequently approves the nominations. For approval, a simple majority of eight out of 15 members is required, while a two-thirds majority (10 out of 15 members) is needed to reject a nominee.
The specific nominees against whom the five complaints have been filed, along with the detailed nature of these complaints, will only be made public after the committee opens them during Tuesday’s meeting. The schedule for the individual hearings of the proposed ambassadors has also not yet been announced.
