Solukhmbu, May 15: Preparations are underway for the Namche Festival to be organized on the occasion of the Mt Everest Day.
'Govt. Neglecting Cooperative Sector'
Kathmandu, May 14: Lawmaker Chakra Bahadur Thakuri has said that cooperative sector was at risk along with politics and expressed his confidence that cooperative sector could be robust once political situation was improved.
Thakuri expressed the view while inaugurating the second anniversary of Makalbari Saving & Credit Cooperative in the capital on Monday.
He said cooperative were not making sufficient financial progress despite their rising numbers lately and urged all involved in cooperative sector to pay their attention on it.
Thakuri blamed the government for paying attention for the development of the cooperative though cooperative was regarded as one of the three pillars of economy.
On the occasion, Vice-chairman of the CPN-UML Kahtmandu District Committee, Krishna Rai, said that development activities have been operated with the assistance of cooperative in foreign countries and added that this model could also be suitable in our context.
Chairman of the cooperative, Govinda Paudel presented the annual report of the cooperative. The cooperative has around Rs 2 million capital.
Export Of Herbs Easy After ID Received
Ilam, May 13: Farmers of northern village in Ilam district involved in herb farming said that they have been feeling easy after receiving identity cards.
The farmers, who received identity cards, have been free from different types of taxes and problems while exporting herbs. The farmers have been involved in selling Chiraito and Majito herbs.
The identity cards were distributed to farmers of Mai Pokhari, Maimajhuwa, Jogmai, Naya Bazaar and Jamuna involved in herb farming on the initiatives of the District Forest Office.
The farmers have got discounts on taxes while exporting herbs and have become free from different hassles after receiving the identity cards, said Lila Bhattarai of Mai Pokhari.
According to Chief at the Singhabahini Area Forest Office, Ram Swarth Saha, the identity cards were distributed to 400 farmers three years ago with the purpose of smooth export of herbs and for the benefit of the farmers.
As many as 4,843 farmers in the areas have been involved in commercial herb farming, according to Chairman of the High Hill Herb Production and Protection Organization, Netra Burja.
Three-Pillar Economic Policy Effective For Sustainable Development
Butwal May 1: Minister for Finance Barshaman Pun said the three-pillar economic policy was effective for the sustainable development of the country.
He said the government has adopted the three-pillar economic policy as the backbone of economic development prioritizing the development of the rural area.
Speaking at a programme organised by Pascimanchal Grameen Bikas Bank, Central Office, here today, Minister Pun said the ‘three-pillar mixed economy’ policy could boost up the government and private sector investment in an effective way.
He said the banks should have to increase their investment in the rural area for improving the economic status of the middle and lower class people. He added that the government has been doing homework to ensure the environment for having at least 10 per cent investment of the banks in the villages.
Minister Pun accepted the fact that though the government has said it will provide incentive to the banks extending their services to the villages, the government has still failed in its implementation.
He said the Rural Development Bank has invested even in the remote villages providing banking and financial opportunities to the poor people there and it has helped in their economic development as well as development of their leadership on the national issues.
Pun also said the government has been preparing to double the economic growth rate and bring budget for the next fiscal year that would give relief to the farmers.
During the programme, Chairman of the Bank, Jagat Bahadur Pokhrel, said they have been prioritizing to maintain good governance in the banking sector.
Allo Clothes Increase Income Of Women In Rolpa
Dang, April 30: Women of Libang, the district headquarters of Rolpa, have been making good income lately by involving themselves in weaving and knitting works by the use of Allo and other local raw materials.
They have been united by forming a group and established a cottage industry to make clothes from Allo. Maya Roka, treasurer of the organization, says 10 local women had collected Rs 10,000 each some 3 years ago to establish Rolpa Community Allo Cloths Factory. The women have been preparing shawls, coats, bags, pants, dhoti and other clothes as well.
Roka said, “We are supplying our products to the local markets and nearby districts too.”
Chairwoman of the factory Tula Garti said the customers visit the factory to purchase garments produced by the company.
The women have also fixed the rate of their products. Gharti said per meter piece costs Rs 400 adding that there was high demand for the local products. At present, 12 women have been provided with fulltime jobs in the factory.
Gharti said the factory made Rs 850,000 net profit last fiscal year and Rs 600,000 net profit has been made so far during this period of the ongoing fiscal year.
Japan Agreed To Provide NRS 259 Million To Nepal
Kathmandu, April 29: The Nepal-Japan foreign affairs ministerial level meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Singha Durbar this morning.
In the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha led the Nepal side while Foreign Minister of Japan Koichiro Gemba headed the Japan side.
Also present in the meeting were Secretaries at the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador of Nepal to Japan, Madan Kumar Bhattarai and 11 Japanese delegates.
An agreement was signed on the grant assistance of Rs. 259 million that the Japan government is providing to Nepal for the increase of food production in Nepal.
On the occasion, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal Kunio Takahasi and Nepal government’s Finance Secretary Krishna Hari Baskota signed the agreement in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs of both the countries.
At the meeting, the Japan government has announced to provide with various equipment support to the Election Commission for the management of voters’ ID cards.
In an informal meeting with Japanese side earlier, it was agreed to ask for support from the Japan government for the construction of 200 Megawatt Upper Seti hydel project, operation of Metro Railway in Kathmandu and Mid-hill Highway, said Niranjan Man Singh Basnyat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
