Nawalparasi Banda Withdrawn
Kawasoti, May 9: The Tharu Struggle Committee has withdrawn the indefinite Nawalparasai banda (shutdown), that it had announced from Wednesday, following a five-point agreement reached with the local administration.
The Committee decided to withdraw the shutdown late afternoon today after the local administration agreed to form a probe committee to investigate into the vandalism at the Danda-based Tharu museum that took place yesterday in course of the Tarai banda, arrange medical treatment for those injured in the clash between the banda organizers and the security personnel and provide compensation to them, said Tharu leader Yug Mahato.
Vehicular traffic in the district that was halted owing to the shutdown resumed from around 4: 15 pm today.
A total of 16 people including Police Inspector Umesh Lamsal were injured in the clash.
The Committee had announced the indefinite shutdown in the district protesting against the police interference in the demonstration.
