Rice import ban from india

Biratnagar, March 17: Import of rice from India has resumed from Friday after the ban on rice imported through the Biratnagar-Jogbani entry point from India was lifted.

The Indian customs had imposed ban on the import through the customs since July last year bringing the import to standstill.

Customs revenue was affected and quarantine test process had come down after such ban, the Plant Quarantine Office, Rani said. 

Quarantine Office Chief Ram Bilas Raya Thakur said rice was imported by the traders as rice is cheap in India than in Nepal.

 According to Indian Customs Office, Jogbani, the import was obstructed because of lack of electronic statistics systems. Import ban was lifted after keeping the electronic data input, one week ago, the 

Indian Customs said. 

In the fiscal year 2067-68 BS, a total of 77,085 metric tons of rice was imported from which the customs had raised revenue of Rs. 70 million rupees.

 Nepal charges five percent tariff and Rs. 565 as service charge while importing rice once. 

For customs purpose, Rs 35 has been fixed as price for fine rice and Rs 15 for course rice.
