Namche fest to begin on May 27

Solukhmbu, May 15: Preparations are underway for the Namche Festival to be organized on the occasion of the Mt Everest Day.

The three-day festival is going to be organized on the financial assistance of different government offices and NGOs including the District Development Committee. The Festival will start on May 27.

According to Coordinator of the Namche Festival Local Organizing Committee, Ang Tenzing Sherpa, the festival is to be organized with the purpose of promoting domestic tourists at the Khumbu area. The Mt. Everest Day is being celebrated on May 29.

Member of the Committee, Lama Kaji Sherpa said that local food items, site scene by helicopter and Sherpa cultures will be the main attraction of the Festival.

Sherpa said the main purpose of the festival is to give message that Khumbu area is also an accessible site for visit to the Nepalese as well by removing the perception that Khumbu area was costlier and was beyond domestic visitors' reach.
