More Women In 18-40 Age Group Are Sexting, Says Survey

London, feb 13: According to a new survey  in the US among 1,500 single women, women between 18 and 40 years of age are sexting more than ever while Facebook and other popular media outlets are viewed to play a heavy influence on their love lives.

Nearly half of women, at 43 per cent, admitted in an online survey last month to 'sexting' or sending a text message on their cell phone containing suggestive and highly explicit sexual language, reports   Daily Mail.

Of those women, 65 per cent say they limit these kinds of texts to only serious relationships while 36 per cent of casual daters polled say they have sent them after just a few dates.
In nude photos sent by email or text by the women surveyed, 27 per cent admitted to having done it one time or another.

Explaining modesty, as the report says, as being 'no longer a virtue in contemporary society' the annual Romance Report by publisher Harlequin showed a clear focus on technology's involvement in romance today in both the survey's themed questions and results. Of the 1,5000 single women surveyed in the United States between 18 and 40 years of age, outside their cell phones and email, they also displayed a heavy influence of Facebook and other media influences in their love lives.

Those who identified themselves as heavy Facebook users - spending roughly 10 hours per week or more on the site - the majority at 61 per cent placed more weight and attention on their love life than others who spent less time on the site.

Whether a woman spent 5 or 10 hours a week on the site, however, 52 per cent of the total survey takers admitted to using Facebook to research a prospective first date.

'Surprisingly,' as the report writes, '52 per cent of women surveyed aged 25 to 35 have never participated in online dating,' it added.

Of outside influences, media, not their mothers or friends - despite 89 per cent of the women saying they use Facebook dominantly to read about other people's lives - made up the top five sources women refer to for romance advice according to the survey.

In order of their frequency, magazine Cosmopolitan came in at number one, with the movie The Notebook in second, Dr. Phil the talk-show host at number three, Oprah at number four, and TV show Millionaire Matchmaker placing fourth. It's not reported which other options the women had to choose from.
