Several Tharu organizations give a 15-day ultimatum to the government

KATHMANDU,Feb 21 - Several Tharu organisations have given a 15-day ultimatum to the government on Tuesday to annul the Inclusive Bill tabled by the government in the Parliament and warned of strong retaliation if the quotas of Tharus were granted to Madhesis. 

Organizing a press meet at the Reporters Club here in the Capital today, the Tharu communities said that conspiracies were being hatched against local Tharus in Terai to turn them into Madhesis and said they will launch a strong protest programme if the decision was not taken back.

Tharu National Mukti Morcha, Democratic Tharu Association, Democratic Socialist Party, Eastern-Tharuwan Kochila State Joint Struggle Committee, National Democratic Tharu Association, Federal Democratic Rastriya Manch, Tharuhat Tarai Party Nepal among others gave the ultimatum to the government. 

Speaking at the programme, Lawmaker Rukmini Choudhari claimed that attempts were being made to end the Tharu’s identity and to turn the Tharu’s land into Madhes and warned of obstructing House proceedings by all 37 Tharu lawmakers representing in the Constituent Assembly if the decision was not withdrawn.

On the occasion, Tharuhat Tarai Party Nepal chairman Laxman Tharu also made it clear that the ultimatum was given to avoid a possible conflict among the Tharus and Madhesis. “The prime minister will topple if our demands are not addressed,” he added

Speaking at the same programme, Democratic Socialist Party chairman Updendra Gachhadar said that federalism sans Tharuhat will not be acceptable to them.
