UML Advocates Multi-Identity Based Federalism
Kathmandu, June 20: The Communist Party of Nepal (UML) has concluded that restructuring of State should be carried out on the basis of multi-caste province.
The national cadres' gathering of the party concluded here on June 19 stressed the need of adopting multi- caste, multi- lingual and multi-cultural federal structure based on identity and capability.
The party made public the decisions of the two-day gathering through a press conference at the party headquarters Balkhu on Wednesday.
Expressing serious concern over ethnic clashes and tensions getting encouraged in the Nepali society in the name of identity, the party said it was committed to social harmony and national unity.
The gathering has urged all political parties to seek a way out to the present political deadlock and constitutional crisis in the country on the basis of national consensus, to protect the achievements of the people's movements and to immediately resume the task of the constitution-drafting.
Concluding that 'unilateral mindset' of the UCPN (Maoist) was the main cause behind the present political crisis in the country, the party has urged the Maoists to be prepared for the formation of the national consensus government to prevent the nation from facing further political polarization and encounters.
The party has appealed to all parties in favour of democracy, progress, social harmony and national unity to intensify protest against totalitarianism. Accusing the government of attempting to rule the country through ordinance, the gathering has also expressed concern over the 'unilateral' decision of the government to transfer senior officers of Nepal Police in context of the issuance of election code of conducts.
Speaking at the press meet, party Chairman Khanal said his party was always committed to party's principles and ideologies, and the efforts were going on to settle the intra-party disputes and protect the party from splitting.
The UML Chairman stressed the need of taking a vital decision about the dissolved CA and end the constitutional crisis emerged following the CA dissolution.
