Biratnagar, May 18: The United Madhesi Front has announced a two-day Tarai banda (shutdown) beginning today, calling for establishing an autonomous single Madhes province.
Industries, factories, market and the business establishments here are closed due to the banda. Similarly, public transport vehicles are not operating.
However, the ongoing Grade 11 examination under the Higher Secondary Board is going ahead without any hindrance, police said. The banda organizers have allowed ambulances, Press vehicles, rickshaws and motorcycles to operate.
Police said no untoward incident has taken place in course of the shutdown till the morning. Security personnel have been deployed at major cross-roads of the town.
A series of bandas enforced by different organizations and parties on a daily basis have crippled the life in the east region.
