Gachchhadar sought an excuse for not celebrating the Democracy Day
KATHMANDU, Feb 21: Opposition parties—Nepali Congress and CPN UML--Tuesday withdrew its earlier decision to obstruct the parliament proceedings after Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar clarified the government’s decision to not mark the Democracy Day on February 19.
Gachchhadar sought an excuse for not celebrating the Democracy Day with a special function and clarified that it was a decision taken by the government led by Madhav Kumar Nepal. He vowed to hold a special function to mark the Democracy Day in the future.
Earlier, as a protest of the government for not marking the Democracy Day on February 19, the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to obstruct the House on Tuesday.
Accusing the government of trying to push the country back to the pre-democracy Rana days, NC has decided to protest the government´s decision, informed NC Chief Whip Laxman Ghimire.
Similarly, the CPN-UML has also decided to continue with their plan to obstruct the House protesting the murder of UML activist in Siraha.
Meanwhile, the radical faction of the UCPN (Maoist) led by Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya has also warned of obstructing the House session if the three bills relating to the anti-money laundering is presented in the parliament for discussion and due consideration.
