Foreign Secretary Inquires Envoy Prasad About Mehta's Remarks
Kathmandu, May 18: Foreign Secretary Durga Prasad Bhattarai on Friday inquired Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Jayant Prasad about the remarks of consular SD Mehta at the General Consulate of India, Birgunj.
Stating that Nepal government's attention was drawn seriously towards the remarks intended at causing adverse impact on the cordial relations between Nepal and India, Foreign Secretary Bhattarai inquired about the issue with the Indian Ambassador, said Foreign Ministry's Spokesperson Arjun Bahadur Thapa.
In response, Ambassador Prasad said the preliminary investigation into the issue was going on. The Government of India had always positive views on Nepal's ongoing peace process and was ready to extend positive support to it, added Spokesperson Thapa.
The Foreign Secretary has requested the Indian Ambassador to respond to the issue keeping in mind its sensitiveness and seriousness and inform about the developments to the Nepal Government.
Meanwhile, the Embassy of India on Friday has claimed that media reports about the remarks of Mr Mehta are false and baseless.
Issuing a press statement, the Embassy said that such attributions have the intention to diminish cordial relations between India and Nepal.
