All Vaccine Services Stopped In Jhapa
Bhadrapur, May 18: All health workers in Jhapa district have stopped for indefinite period all types of vaccine services, which are provided to children below one year of age.
It is said that all vaccine services were stopped until there was guarantee of security as tension arisen after a child died four weeks ago due to DPT vaccine.
A child Samuel Ramtel died on April 20 while undergoing treatment as he was vaccinated of DPT on April 19 in Khudunabari Sub-health Post.
The health workers have again stopped all the vaccine services after four-point agreement signed between the District Public health Office and health workers was not implemented till May 15. The agreement was signed at the District Administration Office with the purpose of resolving the problems that arose after the incident.
According to Coordinator of the Health Workers Association Struggle Committee, Indra Subedi, they have put forth different demands including
providing compensation to the victimised family, guarantee of security of health workers and that the government should take responsibility of such types of incidents.
Meanwhile, health workers have been staging sit-in at the premises of the District Public Health Office, Bhadrapur, under the leadership of Rural Health Workers and Maternal Workers' Welfare Protection Forum with the purpose of piling pressure to fulfill the demands.
