ICT Award Handed
Kathmandu, May 2: President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has handed over Information and Technology Outstanding Award to individuals and institutions making substantial contribution in the field of information and technology, amid a function organized here on Wednesday to mark the Information and Communication Technology Day.
The award, instituted by Computer Association of Nepal (CAN), has been presented to information and technology entrepreneur Muni Bahadur Shakya, successful user of information and technology in private sector thamel.com and successful user of information and technology in government agency Office of Metropolitan City Police Commission.
IT entrepreneur Shakya had set up computer museum and made Robot while thamel.com had extended its business through the use of internet. Likewise, Metropolitan City Commission’s office managed to maintain law and order through IT use.
President Dr. Yadav underlined the need of developing information and technology linking geographically remote different parts of the country and further enhancing the technology for connectivity.
At a time when there is 25 days to go for the promulgation of new constitution, President Dr. Yadav said wished for the restoration of peace, drafting of new constitution and longevity of Nepal and Nepali people.
At the programme, Minister for Science and Technology Kalpana Dhamala also underscored the need of advancing IT sector to make the country prosperous.
She also voiced her concern for not putting the Ministry of Science and Technology on priority even in the era of information and technology.
CAN Chairperson Suresh Kumar Karna said the IT sector has not been prospered well in Nepal due to management deficit in this sector though it has possessed abundant opportunities and potentials.
Investment could be made in the sector only when investment-friendly environment was created, he added.
